Congratulations on your decision to visit Brooklyn! Now how do you get there?
Let me count the ways: you can drive, take a cab, a subway or a bus from Manhattan.
No matter which way you arrive, the map above shows the desired starting place. If coming by public transportation, it's nice to make your starting point the Grand Army Plaza which is at the northern tip of Prospect Park . Find a subway or bus that will take you from Manhattan to this point.
From here you can make side trips to Prospect Park, the Botanic Gardens, the Brooklyn Museum or the Brooklyn Public Library. You're also within easy walking distance of the lovely residential areas of Park Slope and Clinton Hill.
But for now it's on to Crown Heights! I'd suggest either taking a local bus or walking east along the grand old boulevard of Eastern Parkway until you reach
Crown Heights. From there you can follow the Crown Heights Walking Tour.
Brooklyn Public Library
Here you can research the Lawrence and Somers families by going through old Brooklyn Eagle newspapers.
